Clarets swoop as Eagles flies the nest
Burnley-bound
By Chris, July 30 2008
Chris Eagles has left Old Trafford for Lancashire rivals Burnley. The move comes as a bit of a surprise with the midfielder impressing during United's pre-season tour of Africa. He has penned a three-year contract at Turf Moor – with the deal reportedly worth around £1.25million. He leaves the club with just six league appearances to his name.

Eagles had looked set for a chance to impress at first-team level following a string of impressive performances during pre-season.

The 22-year-old hit the net against the Kaizer Chiefs and Portsmouth and helped United secure an unbeaten tour of Africa.

However, Eagles has struggled for first-team opportunities in the past. He's made seventeen appearances in all - six of which have come in the Premier League.

The Hemel-Hempstead born youngster impressed at Championship level on loan spells with Watford and Sheffield Wednesday and the majority of Burnley fans have met the news of his arrival with great approval.

Clarets boss Owen Coyle couldn't hide his delight as the signing was confirmed: "I have watched Chris for years and he has always impressed me. He is just a really gifted footballer, so I asked the question a few times and the answer was no all the time."

Eagles is a talented player who should excel at Championship level. Many United fans will be a little disappointed that the player wasn't given more of a chance with the club - but with such competition for places, a move to Turf Moor is in probably in the player's best interests.

Good luck to Eagles with Burnley.
