Oxford United 2-2 Manchester United Reserves
Another good showing
By Chris, July 30 2008
United reserves produced an impressive comeback on Saturday to hold Oxford United to a 2-2 draw. Despite the youthful make-up of United's side, the Oxford public turned out in force with the attendance substantially higher than the U's average league gate for last season. 6,027, including 1,266 Reds, were at the Kassam Stadium as Danny Drinkwater and Sam Hewson hit the target for the visitors.

United's second-string staged an excellent comeback to maintain an unbeaten pre-season campaign.

With the senior side calling upon a handful of reserves for the final legs of the Africa tour, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named a youthful side as the Red Devils took on the Conference side.

Yemi Odubade volleyed the hosts ahead on sixteen minutes with an athletic effort; and that advantage was doubled seven minutes after the break with Jamie Guy poking home from close-range.

However, the majority of the 6,000-crowd were muted as United pulled themselves back into the game. Danny Drinkwater headed home on 54 minutes, with Sam Hewson restoring parity with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

Solskjaer can now turn his attentions to Wednesday night and his first taste of competitive action as a manager. United's second-string take on arch-rivals Liverpool in the final of the Lancashire Senior Cup - with Ole set to enjoy his testimonial three days later.
