Stapleford, invited to field first opened the bowling with Paul Fletcher and Mark Cliff. Both kept it tight, but after only bowling 2 overs, Cliff requested to be removed from the attack due to the very uneven run ups and was replaced by Harchuk. Fletcher and Harchuk toiled away and openers Woolley and Brown took the score to 42 when Harchuk trapped Woolley in front for 12, leaving the home side 42-1. Then in the next over Brown hit a return catch back to Fletcher where he took a great catch in his follow through sending Brown back for 25 and leaving Codnor on 42/2. Paul Fletcher kept things tight to finish a cracking 14 over spell in tough conditions to leave him with analysis of 14-1-23-1. Some resistance from Lanyon and Colson took the score to 85 but Colson went for the short boundary and mistimed the shot. Brackenbury took the catch off Mark Cliff to give him his first wicket of the day. Shortly after Cliff bowled a half tracker at Lanyon which he went to smash out the ground but was bowled leg stump by Cliff. A touch of good fortune as the ball really deserved to be hit out the park! Swain and Brackenbury came on for the last 12 overs to finish it off. Swain claimed the wickets of Beach, Leake and Millington to finish with 6-1-26-3. Brackenbury also kept it tidy with 0-30 off 6 overs. Paul Spicer played some good attacking shots to finish with Codnors top score of 27* giving them a creditable 154-8 off their 46 overs.
What was to come surely couldnt have been expected by any one. Andy Brear who has been in top form this season, opened the batting with Ian Walker. The bowling of Brown and Spicer was being harshly dealt with by the openers, mostly by Brear. Brown 6-1-39-0 and Spicer 6-2-37-0 (whos last over was clubbed for 20) did their best to contain Brear but soon as they were taken off, Brear moved into top gear. Anything short was hammered, anything full was driven forcefully. In the 18th over the score was 131 when Walker who had played some nice shots in a good supporting role for Brear was caught by Beach off the bowling of Mills for 25 which included 2 fours and a six. Brear was edging up to his 100 when he was joined by Fletcher. Drinks were taken and Brear was on 99. He went to his century with a pulled 6 which was as bigger hit as any seen today. Brear was keen to get it over with after scoring his hundred when Fletcher took a single from the 1st ball of the 20th over. The next 4 balls went for 22 runs (to leave Mills with 1.5-0-32-1) and Andy Brear has completed an unbeaten 121 off a mere 50 balls which included 10 fours and 11 sixes. It was one of the most attacking and faultless innings of batting i had ever witnessed. It has to be said the Codnor bowling wasnt the strongest attack around but to hit 106 runs in boundaries out of 121 is a great effort in any standard. It's frightening to think how many he would have got given a full 46 overs. The Codnor players at the end were clearly unimpressed by this and made their feelings very clear which made the win even more enjoyable than it already was. Stapleford had made their target of 155 in 20.5 overs winning by 9 wickets.
2nd team report to follow when i get more info.

Steve Morley himself showing what a great asset is is going to be in the 2s with 5-25 and Mike Clifford who isnt usually called upon to bowl bagged 3-3. Brian Morley jnr played well in getting an unbeaten 54 to give Stabbo 2nds victory by 7 wickets.
