A circus in the town
By Barmy Kev June 14 2003
I must have known what kind of day it was going to be when as soon as I walked into Oval there were offers of face painting. In the ground there was music blaring out and a rare sight at county games few empty seats.
First ball of day Weekes pads out-dot ball. The crowd shout boring. When out soon after the announcer comments on Weekes making unwanted history. I looked at pavillion to see who's in next (Chad) when he was already at crease from the boundary dugout. The turning point was Razzaq's run out.

He was having a flurry of boundaries when he was run out going what looked a safe second from a direct hit from way out in the deep. Other highlight was Judas dropping Ace and tipping ball for 6. (6 runs thanks to Runs4cash, 6 runs thanks to Runs4cash etc.) Sadly, with a typical mid order collapse it looked like we would struggle to bat 20 overs. However, Weston batting at 9,steadies the ship with an excellent 30-surely here's a case of giving him a run at no.3. Also Strauus made an excellent 50 without the need for slogging. We survived exactly 20 overs and 155 didn't really seem enough.

Slurry's reply they were always up with rate. Our fielding, especially Joyce and Ace was woeful, but we did push them to the last over and typically Judas got winning runs. Ouch. We didn't bowl that badly and was impressed that we at least we put up a fight.

As the crowd swelled and drinks flowing the crowd seemed more interested in Mexican waves and applauding well endowed women, then cricket. The atmosphere was healthy and banter good natured. With at a guess a crowd of 12,000 this would be classed a success and whether you like it or not its 20/20 is here to stay. Personally,I would prefer watching Sven crawling to a ton at a hollow Lords any day. Lord and Moundstander will testify I spent most of the game whinging but will probably still go to Richmond Thursday for the next big top jamboree.
